How to prolong the service life of battery

The length of the service life of the car battery depends on the structure and quality of the battery on the one hand, and is closely related to the daily maintenance on the other hand. The following aspects are what we need to pay attention to.

Pay attention to firm installation and clean maintenance

First of all, the installation of the battery on the car should be firm and reliable to prevent the vibration of the car during driving from causing damage to the internal plate of the battery and loose connection of the external wires. Secondly, the starter battery for automobiles can withstand high current and short-term discharge, but long-term discharge of small current will reduce the battery life; therefore, the dust, muddy water on the battery, as well as oxides and liquids on the terminals and wires should be removed frequently. The electrolyte overflowing at the mouth should be kept clean and dry to prevent the battery from self-discharging.

Pay attention to charging in time

When the voltage of the battery is insufficient, the lights are dim, and the starting is weak, supplementary charging should be carried out outside the car in time. The charge level of the battery can be reflected on the instrument panel. When the pointer of the ammeter shows that the storage capacity is less than about one-third of the discharge, it should be charged in time, and the discharge of more than two-thirds is over-discharge. The current is relatively large during overdischarge charging, which is not conducive to the reduction of active materials. When the car is driving in a cold area, it is necessary to avoid the battery being completely discharged, so as to avoid the freezing of the electrolyte.

Regular inspection

a. Check the battery casing for cracks and electrolyte leakage.
b. Always check whether the battery connection line is firm. All the live joints must be kept in good contact to prevent sparks from causing the battery to explode.
Do not put metal objects on the battery to prevent short circuits; cracks in the sealant should be repaired in time. Check all parts of the circuit for aging or short circuits.
c. Regularly check the battery electrolyte density and liquid level, check the discharge level of the battery, and prevent early retirement due to overdischarge.
d. Pay attention to keep the charging circuit of the battery normal. When the battery is overused, the charging indicator may not be able to correctly display whether the charging is normal or not.
e. For temporary parking of cars, pay attention to preventing exposure to sunlight in summer and preventing freezing in winter. When the car is parked for a long time, the engine should be started and run at medium speed for more than half an hour for more than half a month; it is best to remove the battery and store it separately if it is parked for a long time.
