Key points for replacing lead acid battery with lithium iron phosphate battery
1. Space problem of battery
Under the same specification, the volume of lithium iron phosphate battery is only half of that of lead-acid battery, and the weight is only 35% of that of lead-acid battery. Theoretically, the space is completely enough. However, it is necessary to consider whether it can still be installed in the original position, and whether it protrudes or is squeezed.
2. Chargers conforming to the battery type must be used
Because the charging mode, voltage and current required by the two batteries are different, the original charger cannot be used directly.
3. Socket replacement
The interfaces of the two are generally different, and the battery must be replaced with a matching socket.
4. Cut off voltage
Discharge cut-off voltage=number of pieces * battery discharge cut-off voltage. For example, the 48V lead-acid battery is 4 * 10.5=42V, and the lithium iron phosphate battery is 16 * 2.5=40V or 15 strings of lithium iron.
5. Select protection plate according to motor power and controller
For example, the car has a 500W motor and 60V battery. Common formula of protection plate current: (500/60) * (2.2~2.5). Some motors are old, and the current will increase. The current parameters should be appropriately amplified.
6. Replace fuse
Lithium iron phosphate battery has strong power and large current, and the original fuse may burn out when it is suddenly started.
7. Note capacity
Replace the lithium iron phosphate battery with the same capacity and voltage. The actual capacity of the lithium battery is more than that of the lead acid battery. This is because the lithium battery can achieve 100% DOD, but the lead acid is generally recommended to be put at 70%, otherwise the lead acid battery is easy to be damaged. Another important reason is that lead-acid batteries have poor high current characteristics. When discharged at 1C, they have only 50% capacity, while lithium batteries can basically achieve 100% DOD at 1C.
8. Waterproof
Protection grade: IP * *, the following two numbers, the first number is the solid state protection grade (range: 0-6); The second number is the liquid protection level (range is 0-8). The larger the number, the stronger the protection capability. Lead acid batteries are usually sealed with sealant or filled with tachysol, which has a good waterproof function. But lithium iron phosphate battery is not necessary.
9. Change the charging mode
Lithium battery has no memory effect. The battery can be charged or discharged at any time. Of course, when it is not used for a long time, it needs to be charged regularly. After all, lithium batteries are self consuming.
