What's wrong with the battery heating?

2023-05-15

The damage to the battery varies with the degree of heating of the battery. As long as the battery works, it will heat up. That is because the chemical substances inside the battery are active and react to release energy during the discharge process. However, if the battery discharges too fast, it may be that the battery capacity is small and the discharge current exceeds 0.5C for a long time. It is emphasized here that although the battery consumes a certain amount of power after a short drive, after it is stationary, the battery has a recovery process, and the electrochemical process of the electrode plate continues, so the voltage will rise, but it does not mean that the capacity will rise; On the contrary, when driving for a long distance without stopping on the road, the electrification of the electrode plate and the consumption of electric energy are carried out at the same time.

There are three situations:

1. When the rated voltage of the motor is low, the battery capacity is small, and the working current is too large, the voltage will drop sharply, and the capacity will soon be exhausted, which is the most unfavorable for the battery.

2. The electrochemical reaction speed of the battery can only maintain driving. The battery has no chance to recover and gasp. The battery is often charged and discharged in the whole cycle, and will be over consumed if not noticed. In case of upwind, the power consumption is very high, forcing the battery plate to react rapidly. The high heat of the battery shell will damage the battery and shorten its life, indicating that the capacity is not sufficient.

3. It is ideal that the electrochemical reaction rate of the battery can supply enough power calmly. The shell of the battery has no abnormal heat, indicating that the battery capacity is surplus.

Only the last of the three cases is ideal for long-distance driving. It should be noted that the battery shell is obviously hot, and the heat of the internal battery itself is higher.

During the charging process of the battery, part of the electrical energy is converted into chemical energy, and part of it is also converted into heat energy and other energy. Charging battery heating is a normal phenomenon, but when the temperature is high, check whether the charging current is too high or whether there is a short circuit inside the battery.

The relationship between the heat value and the amount of electrolyte is small. If the amount of electrolyte in the sealed battery is small, the internal resistance will increase, which will also cause the battery to heat up and the terminal voltage will be very high during charging. The aging of batteries, the drying of electrolyte, and the internal short circuit will also cause heat. The charger cannot maintain constant voltage in the late charging period, so that the battery voltage exceeds the allowable value, the temperature will rise, and in serious cases, it will swell, and the service life will end.

During use, try not to lay it horizontally or upside down to prevent a large amount of gas generated in the battery from being discharged from the vent valve, especially during charging, otherwise the shell may burst.
