The design of separator in valve regulated lead-acid battery

  1. The AGM separator shall be selected based on its own performance. According to the analysis of the function of the separator in the battery, the AGM separator shall have high acid absorption capacity, small shrinkage after acid absorption, reasonable microporous structure and low resistivity. According to the comprehensive performance requirements of the battery, the AGM separator should also have the characteristics of low impurity content, high tensile strength, fast infiltration speed, etc.

  2. With reasonable pole group structure design, it can be seen from the above analysis that the AGM separator should have appropriate saturation and be in a high pressure state when designing the battery, which requires selecting the appropriate amount of separator.

Saturated acid absorption capacity of separator

⊿ Saturated acid absorption capacity of separator is an important basis for selecting AGM battery separator in the design of VRLA battery. For a determined partition, its saturated acid absorption is related to the pressure on the partition. Saturated acid absorption capacity of separator refers to the maximum acid absorption volume per unit weight of separator under a certain pressure, expressed in Vb, and its unit is mL/g.

⊿ In valve regulated sealed lead-acid batteries, when the working distance of the AGM separator is determined, the pressure on the separator is determined by the number of installed separators If b is used to represent the sum of positive and negative plate spacing in the battery, and a is used to represent the total thickness of all separators in the battery under the pressure of 10kPa, then the value of a/b determines the pressure on the separators in the battery. Therefore, in valve regulated sealed lead-acid batteries, the saturated acid absorption capacity of the separator is determined by a/b.

⊿ Production practice and special experiments show that when the value of a/b is in the range of 1.1~1.5 (the corresponding pressure is 15~85kPa), the saturated acid absorption capacity Vb of the AGM battery separator and a/b approximately have the following linear relationship: Vb=E (a/b) + F (1), where E and F are constants related to the performance of the diaphragm itself.
